Carmela is an Oncology Social Worker with Cancer Care Connection, an affiliate of JFS Delaware. In this position, she works closely with cancer patients, caregivers, and community partners to reduce cancer-related distress; Oncology Social Workers are dedicated to compassionately helping those affected by cancer navigate the full range of the issues they face, make informed decisions, and take action on their own behalf.

Throughout her long career, Carmela has previously been employed by Christiana Care, the Census Bureau, and Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services. She completed her education and training through Brandywine College, Wilmington University, and Widener University.

In her free time, Carmela stays active through kayaking, archery, hiking and travelling; she also enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and home remodeling. Carmela continues to serve the community, beyond her work as a therapist, volunteering at St. Patrick’s Center, Winterthur, the League of Women Voters, and the Delaware Grief Awareness Consortium.

Kathie is an Oncology Social Worker with Cancer Care Connection, an affiliate of JFS Delaware. She has over 10 years of clinical experience serving the community and supporting individuals and caregivers impacted by cancer and other life stressors. Kathie’s prior work experience includes supporting clients who are managing and coping with depression and anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and adjustment to planned and unplanned life transitions. Kathie practices from a collaborative, strengths-based and person-centered perspective.

With a BS in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University, Kathie’s first career was in HR for a Federal agency. It was this experience and her exposure to social work and social justice which encouraged her leap of faith to return to school and begin a second career in social work. She completed her graduate degree at Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Research in 2011 and, soon after, began her work with Cancer Care Connection. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Kathie also worked briefly with a Home Visit Program as part of an Integrated Health Care team, providing care to geriatric and homebound patients.

Kathie and her spouse recently moved to Sussex County, Delaware with their rescue dog, Tucker. Reading is a life-long joy for Kathie and, in other free time, she enjoys knitting and needlework, ocean walks and swimming, hiking nearby trails, and a bit of gardening. In the past, she enjoyed volunteering with Paws for People.

Carol is the Clinical Director and an Oncology Social Worker at Cancer Care Connection, an affiliate of JFS Delaware. Carol is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with twenty years of oncology experience and almost thirty years in the mental health field.

Carol is passionate about helping those affected by cancer achieve their best possible outcome as they navigate the difficult terrain that a diagnosis and treatment may bring. Carol strives to create a warm, non-judgmental therapeutic environment, and provides personalized treatment for each client’s needs. Carol’s style is collaborative, active, and empathic, and she uses evidence-informed approaches and interventions to foster insight, build skills, and promote growth. Carol believes working together to live more fully in the present will relieve suffering and allow each person to enact their own unique positive strengths and abilities to live life authentically.

Carol’s history in corporate business led her to volunteer with Contact Lifeline and transition to social work education. From there, she has worked at Tressler Centers of Delaware and Horizon House, which fortuitously led her to Cancer Care Connection, which includes her work as an affiliate therapist with the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine in West Chester.

Carol received her BSW and MSW from Delaware State University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, travel, cooking and all things beach related. Her work in the oncology field has heightened her desire to live the motto “if not now, when?”

Janet is the Executive Director of Cancer Care Connection, an affiliate of JFS Delaware. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of oncology experience. Prior to joining Cancer Care Connection, Janet attended Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. She attended graduate school as part of her transition from a corporate career at Fortune 100 companies; her experience during the early years of her career provided background in finance, sales, administration and customer service – all of which serves her well in her current position. Janet joined Cancer Care Connection in 2000 and was involved every step of the way in bringing the newly formed organization to life.

Janet is passionate about inspiring and motivating others to achieve their best possible outcome, particularly as it relates to their health and wellbeing. Her work is informed through her study of mind body medicine, behavior change models and neuroscience. She has presented at national conferences, provided self-care trainings for health care professionals and corporate and nonprofit employees, and individually coached many colleagues in her role as Executive Director.

Janet loves working and playing! In her spare time, she enjoys training and performing in ballroom dancing, working with a personal trainer, traveling (especially to France), cooking healthy and sometimes decadent meals, reading fiction and nonfiction, watching addictive series on Netflix and Amazon Prime, having FUN and especially spending time with her family and friends.
