SCHOOL-BASED THERAPY

Helping children help themselves.

Children don’t grow up in a vacuum. Issues at home can easily re-emerge at school, and the influence of peers can further affect behavior and development.

As part of the state of Delaware’s Early Intervention Program, Family Crisis Therapists (FCTs) help students in kindergarten through fifth grade build skills to effectively manage their own behavior and successfully transition into middle school. FCTs conduct home visits, work in the classroom, and lead social skills groups in addition to seeing students individually.

JFS Delaware’s partnership with the state for these services include the training and oversight of Family Crisis Therapists at 3 Delaware schools: Silver Lake Elementary, Marbrook Elementary, and Shortlidge Elementary. JFS’ Family Crisis Therapists are here to support children as they learn to manage their own behaviors. They are collaborators, working with parents, teachers, colleagues, and school administrators to help their students.
